Last month, as we headed West exploring what makes runners tick, we launched the #RunDiaries project – where we called upon our members worldwide to tell us why they run. The response we received was inspiring to say the least. Our lucky winner, Ashley Romano, posted this video as her entry.
Did that 15 seconds feel too short? Read Ashley’s running story below.
Two years ago I started a journey to fitness, losing 142lbs. Prior to my weight loss I had never been able to run, not even as a kid. I was terrified the morning of my first 5k and seriously considered backing out. Fortunately, I didn’t. Until this year, I had never even considered running a marathon. It hadn’t even crossed my mind that I might be able to do one some day.
When I finished my first half marathon, I felt like I had climbed Mt. Everest. All of my training and dedication was so worth it. I want to know what it feels like to run the real deal, and hopefully one day I will qualify for Boston.
It’s amazing to accomplish something you’ve always dreamed of. It’s even more amazing to accomplish things that weren’t even on your radar because they seemed so unrealistic! I once read “if you want to change your day, run a mile. If you want to change your life, run a marathon.” I’m ready to change my life!!
This fall, Ashley will run her first marathon in New York. Follow her journey, or share your tips in the comments below.
