The MapMyRun Tour: The Voices Behind the Miles #RunDiaries

Posted on May 1st, 2014 in Blog, News.

Running is more popular now than perhaps any other time in history.  Breaking into mainstream culture in the 70’s, running has grown to become more than just a healthy activity but a way of life for millions of people around the world.  A massive retail and events industry, has evolved to meet interested runners with space age products and mind blowing race experiences.  People of all ages are lacing up and proclaiming: I am a runner. While all of the numbers tell us running has blown up and will continue, one must ask why. What is it about this simple act that makes people wake up at the crack of dawn only to trudge through the streets in silence?

With an office chock full of runners, we are naturally fascinated by such a straightforward yet hard to answer question.  To get some answers, we created the MapMyRun Tour.  Starting May 12th, a skeleton crew, complete with a fully branded 1962 airstream, will embark on a five day tour from Austin to San Francisco on a mission to find what inspires people to run.  At each stop along the tour MapMyRun and Under Armour will host open group runs and shoot video interviews with local runners.  After the epic MapMyRun Tour comes to an end we will edit the raw footage captured and entries from Run Diaries to reveal a diverse perspective into the huge role running plays in modern society.
