Run a Race, Change a Life Forever

Posted on October 23rd, 2013 in Blog.

For all of you planning on running this weekend – why not run for an amazing cause? We are inviting our community to participate in a virtual race hosted by Run for the Water, an annual 10-mile (or 5K) held in Austin, TX hosted by Gilbert Tuhabonye’s Gazelle Foundation.

Gilbert, a Burundi-born long distance runner, survived a massacre during the Burundian Civil War 20 years ago and is now working to help his native country by providing clean water systems and educating Americans on the importance of clean water availability worldwide through his love of running. As of June 2013, the Gazelle Foundation has served over 20,000 citizens clean, potable drinking water. Through this effort, the people of Burundi have seen a dramatic decline in the existence of waterborne illnesses, an increase in school attendance, and an overall positive change in life.

This year, we are teaming with the Gazelle Foundation to help take this race beyond Austin City Limits. Now anyone can sign up to participate in this cause from his or her own trails and favorite courses. And the best part? Each race entry provides a Burundian with clean drinking water for a lifetime.

  • Sign up to run the virtual race
  • Track your run (10 miles or 3.1) with the MapMyRun app
  • Collect your swag – all registered participants will receive a Gazelle Foundation t-shirt

Oh, and did we mention every registration for the Global Run for the Water also includes a free 2-month membership to our MVP subscription?

So Dig Deep this weekend and give back! If you would like to learn more about the Gazelle Foundation, please visit their official website or Facebook Page.
